Display all categories+products on one page

OK well it looks like I got that figured out... there was some leftovers from another mod that just needed to be wiped of the header_php.php page. Last thing I need to tweak is the main page. Since I have category display on main page set to true, it is populated all of the products for the first subcats on the main page.. I would like to take the listing off of the main page. Can't seem to find where...? I thought I could do this in admin, but alas, I think it has to be done in the code for this awesome mod. I do truely love this mod. I would say it's one of the best contributions out there..

I've uploaded and followed yellow's addon, but I just cant seem to make it work. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated, I've been working on this for 2 weeks now, I am not familiar with zen cart or sql please help.

Yes, I also tried to use all products in a category mod and it doesn't work.

Just tried to install this mod, tested it and got blank pages when clicking on a category, undid all the changes, and still the same??? So tried again and its still not giving me anything????

Its OK I managed to sort it, got everything back as it was, the mod did not work for me and I am on 1.3.8 too any ideas???

I managed to get Yellow1912's mod to work, but it displays ALL products from ALL categories when I click on any of the parent categories??? ie. I click on category 1 and get the products for every category instead of just the ones for category 1 and its sub cats???

Instead of adding code to the tpl_index_default.php file I added it to tpl_index_categories.php and got it to display the products but with the above problem???

Any suggestions???

I second bluedragon on this, I've tried to add it to a clean 1.38 install and I can't seem to get it working.

Are there any other admin flags that need setting, as just uploading that handfull of files seems very simplelistic for such a cool mod?

This is a perfect mod for our store but have installed it following the directions very closely, triple checked everything and still no changes to the site, using version 1.3.8a - :dontgetit

Getting a bit disappointed at the lack of support on some aspects of Zen Cart :-(

The mod's creator is probably the only one who knows its code well enough to help you. We collectively can't be responsible for all individual mods, and it doesn't seem to be one that has gathered a community of people working on it. My experience is that the author tends to gear mods to a professional level of competence with PHP, which most people here don't possess.

Update: yellow1912 has announced, in his Simple SEO URL support thread, that he is in Japan for six months and will not be able to give much support beyond bugfixes.

There are a few people who have done tweaks or modifications to the mod earlier in the thread, and maybe one of them can help.

If you're using yellow1912's "all_sub_cats_products" add-on, and want to add sub-category links at the top of the page, I may have the solution for you. I've managed to modify the add-on to do this on my store.

See the attached zip for the patches and instructions to make this work. Please note that this is a very "hackish" mod by me - I have not tried this on a fresh install, and cannot guarantee that it will work for you. So be sure to make backups of all relevant files!

This modification requires code changes as well as replacing a file, so be sure to follow the instructions in readme.txt.

To yellow1912: you've been very helpful, so if the attached code works, feel free to make it into an actual update to your add-on, if you wish. :smile:

I have been trying to get this mod to work on my site for a few months now. I want to have the products listed below the categories. And I can get everything working exactly the way I want, with all of the info provided in this thread. But for some reason, Users can not login to their account and checkout, which is obviously a big problem. It seems to be related to the simple categories tree autoloader, or class. Any Idea what would be causing this? I am running 1.3.7, with better categories mod.

There could well be a file in the mod whose original was changed between 1.3.7 and 1.3.8, and this could cause a problem when installed in a 1.3.7 site. I suggest you compare the ZC 1.3.8 changelog with the mod file list and see if there is overlap.

So I've added a little flare to the sub-cats at the top of the listing pages that I think some might enjoy. Let me know if you do and I'll bundle up a mod after a few improvements.

What is it: It's a tabular display of subcats on category pages. IMHO it's a cleaner look than the table layout, and much easier to manipulate. I've changed it into an unordered list so you can use whatever tabs, styles, etc that you want.

What it is not: It's not a product filter, it uses the same subcat display and engine that yellow built. Though I do wish I could locate yellow's filter, I've never been able to find it

Anyhow, go ahead and check it out, let me know if it's worth it to bundle it up and upload it. It modifies no core files either :)

I am testing add_subcategory_row_to_allSubCatsProducts files on my test install. Works great.

I have not decided if I am going to implement this. I initially wanted to have it as I noticed search engine rankings dropped after I split a category with 50 plus products into 3 sub categories. After Google updated the listings, my ranking dropped a lot. Now I wonder if this mod could bring glory back! It would add back all the listing to the original location and still offer the "filtered sub categories for the consumer". I am still hesitant as I feel it is somewhat confusing for the site visitor to see categories and products on the same page. Any takes on this subject? Did this mod perform for you folks? Or did you choose it for pure functionality?

This was exactly how I felt, with the categories being in a grid layout and the products in the same layout, it was a little like :huh:? That's why I did the tabular display at the top so it felt more divided. http://www.cupidsbedroom.com/store/bath-and-body

I just realized that the code modification will make ALL products list on my home page as well. On the home page I want only all my categories to show, no products.

I would love to find a solution where I could choose on what pages I want to display sub cat products. Let's say no sub cat products on the first level (top categories) but show them on level two.

This would probably make sense as Google seems not to like deep categories anyway. But the consumer might... if done right.

For now it is a no go for me until I can prevent all the sub cat products to show up on the home page.

Does anybody see a way of preventing the code to load on the main page? If this can be done, GREAT. I just can't have all products list on the main page.

The only way I can see is to disable:
Always Show Categories on Main Page
0= off

Then create a custom main page with defines page editor (define_main_page.php) and build it manually. Yak.

How could this be done more elegantly without stripping the automatic category layout on the main page.
