Yahootreemenu with ajax.

banswidthjunkie:

@kimsonvu <- by the way in includes/templates/classic/css/stylesheet_lightbox.css try changing the z-index of the lightbox to 10000, to stop the lightbox from hiding under the menu.

Hello,

Thanks you for your tip ! That work in IE 6 and IE 7 but it still not work in FF 2.

DO you know what is trouble?

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

You have a few options:

  1. There are three components to the lightbox, which have a z-index setting, you could play with the other two.
  2. There is a default class in Lightbox for hiding parts of the page, you could add this to your menu.
  3. You could try my Slimbox mod, which is an enhanced Lightbox plugin. I think that this fixes most of the problems with lightbox and it is a much faster download. I know this works with the apple zen dropdown menu, so it should be ok with yours.

Up to you.

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

Lightbox wasn't written properly, so when I wrote Fual Slimbox I wrote a patch for people with Lightbox installed that fixed the Lightbox code. The patch I have written does not modify Lightbox from your point of view, it just makes it possible to switch it off. So yes follow the instructions in the mod and I promise everything will be fine :)

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

OK - I'm experiencing this IE6 issue where it doesn't load the page...
I'm using slimboxI'm also using treemenu (from zen-cart download page) - not yahootreemenu...
But since I saw banswidthjunkie posting here, I thought i might have some luck at success... :)

For now: I just turned off the treemenu...
I was able to narrow it down to one file treemenu_tpl.php

I'll play around with the z-index's...

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

oh yeah - I forgot to mention - It worked fine on my IE6 - but not on my buddies machine running the same thing...

also, his other machine had ie7 - and it TOO had the problem...

one thing I did notice is that both mochines were running a Norton anti-virus and it had plugs into the browsers, too......

But I was able to find that problem, and then this thread... so I may be close to a solution.

I've been trying to recreate my problem - but it seems to act sporadically... i.e. sometimes I make the error occur (operation aborted) and then the VERY same product works a minute later! Is something loading into cache or soemthing?

Oh yeah - and I'm playing around with z-index'ing - setting my left column stuff in the 1000's and incrementing from there...

The z-index has nothing to do with the operation aborted issue. It is just to make the lightbox sit over everything else.

Since it is a BUG in IE then it makes sense that it's behaviour is sporadic. Sometimes the bug triggers, sometimes it doesn't.

The bug isn't in either lightbox version, it results from code in ytreemenu. However the lightbox triggers it because it wants to do something to the dom after ytreemenu has modified it inline.

My suggestion is that if you can't fix the ytreemenu code then you need to decide whether to use that or a lightbox. I think fixing ytreemenu is pretty simple, (add the initialisation to the domready event).

@kimson <- "I still don't know what is Fual Slimbox." If you have installed it then you should see it on your site.

If there is something you want to know about Slimbox, you should probably post in the support thread so as not to hijack this one.

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

Thank you!

now I just need to figure out HOW to "add the initialisation to the domready event"

Oh yeah - and I'm not using YahooTreemenu... it's just treemenu (unless it Yahoo "underneath the hood!")

Got any hints?

Well - there does seem to be some sort of timing issue... after quite a bit of playing with this, it seems when the server is idle for a while, and then I hit some product, it might not come up the "first" time... I'll get that error...

well - if I hit refresh, generally it comes up (depending on my connection speed, too!)

So is there some delay or something when making calls to the DB? How do I ensure all the necessary components load - and in whatever order they need to load in? Or how do I "slow" that DOMEVENT thing down?

am I going in the right direction, do you think?

thanks!

Re: Yahootreemenu with ajax.

maybe when you were making this lightbox lighter (hahaha!) there was some code that got stripped out that helped in this scenario?

(and I really mean NO offense here! This is a great add-on!)

I'm only going to say this once more because you keep on going on about it: This isn't anything to do with the lightbox, all of your problems are related to the treemenu mod (which isn't even this tree menu). Any other lightbox mod would probably trigger the same issue because they all work in the same way. The reason this is smaller is because it uses a smaller framework that can be modularised and packed with a javascript compressor.

The lightbox is a fairly simple piece of code that does one thing and runs on hundreds of thousands of websites across the internet and executes everything locally to the user. The treemenu by comparison talks to your database after the page has loaded and then updates the page. This kind of technology is much newer and more fragile. If you post 10 quick replies on this website maybe only 8 or 9 actually work, because it does this ajax thing. That is what is happening with your tree menu, from time to time the message gets lost over the thousands of miles between your server and your computer and the menu fails to load.

As far as I can tell this code hasn't been modified in over a year, is no longer supported and there has only ever been one update in its lifetime. It is a complex piece of code and all code contains bugs, probably this is no different.

So please can you stop going on about how it is a problem with the lightbox software.

Wow... i wasn't expecting that.

First of all - i wasn't BLAMING anything... I just know that i started having issues AFTER i installed the lightbox. I know that code isn't perfect. First you said it was fairly simple... then in the next paragraph you say it is a complex piece of code...

I know that feeling! :)

And I already knew that ANY lightbox type appliction could cause similar issues... i figured since you (it was you, right?) picked it apart that you MIGHT have seen your fair share of issues and could point me (and others) in the right direction...

I'm a UNIX admin by profession (20 years now.) I am pretty darn good at HTML and I pick my way through other peoples' PHP, PERL, and Javascript... I'm not great at those, which is why I came here. But I'm not stupid either.

I "keep on going on" about this problem I'm having because I was looking for some direction. And it's apparent that I'm not the only one that runs into this issue... and even some of those other folks that run into this problem are led here....... so there's gotta be something to that.

but thanks for posting

If I figure it out, I will be sure to detail my findings here so that others can have some insite into solving it... I know every situation is different... so I might not offer a solution... just some hopeful direction... again why I came here.

Maybe you could have asked to see my site? (now in BETA)

I know that menu tree has some problem with it because of IE js parse bug and quite frustrating, but I just follw banwithjunkie advice and add the initialization to dom load and it work no problem with his slimbox mod. So I can see why he getting annoyed that you say problem with his software because it not.

For an admin with 20 year experience then should be pretty easy to implement how i did: http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/event/#ondomready

Again - i didn't say it was a problem with HIS code... I said that there is a conflict... that's different. All apologies it that is not understood.

and - thank you for that link! I will look at it shortly!! That was the missing information that I had not had a chance to research - and now you made it easier. Thanks!
